How to tell alternators apart?

The mount style is the positive giveaway.
The basic arrangement is a knuckle joint: a hinge
having a single projection with a hole on one piece (male)
which fits into a gap between two corresponding
projections (female) on the second piece and retained
by a bolt or bolts. The 90A alternator case has the male
portion of this joint and a single hinge pin through-bolt.
The 110A alternator case comprises the female portion
of the hinge and there are two bolts. The mounting
brackets for each type are of the respective opposite
persuasions.
