CARB's smoggy skies

How old is your cat?  I had a heck of a time gettng a car smogged recently, 
finally changed the cat, passed just fine.  The old cat looked perfect, but I 
don't think it was firing off like it should.  New cat for $125 did the trick.

<< Failed my smog test today--GRRR!!! Missed CARB's hydrocarbons by 8, max 
 allowed is 120, mine 128. Other tests fine, car runs great, mobil 1 every 5k 
 mi., etc.; idle measured on dyno is 751 rpm. (a wee low, no?)
 
 I'm planning on: red line fuel injector cleaner (run til empty), chevron 
 supreme gas, finally a pre-check oil change.  Anything else I can do of a 
 non-mechanical nature? (trying to avoid another visit to wrench)
