Hey all,
Wondering if anyone has any insight on the symptoms my car has recently been
exhibiting. When the engine temperature gauge gets above the 1/2 mark and
the engine fan starts to run the car displays almost vapor lock-type
symptoms when driving and then shutting the car of briefly and then
restarting. engine is rough and hard to start and stumbles for a little
while the runs normal. This never happens when it's cold outside- below 35
or so- the engine temp gauge never really gets above the 1/2 mark even when
stop-and-go driving in the city. My mechanic mentioned the fuel pump as a
possible cause but I'm not so sure. I replaced the fuel pump relay, which
was slightly scorched- probably the original, with no change. Wondering if
the engine temp is the cause or some other adjustment. I recently did quite
a bit of tune-up work to the car- fuel filter, K&N air filter, distributor,
cap & rotor, plugs, and had the O2 and timing set up. Wondering what the
gauge should if the cooling system is functioning properly. My 85 4kq used
to do the exact same thing, but very rarely and only in the hot summer
months and I had a new fuel pump in the car. Hoping that a radiator flush
and thermostat may keep the engine temp in check and maybe an CIS adjustment
or something would help the problem. Any insight would be very much
appreciated. Please respond to me directly as I don't receive the digest at
work.
