As far as I know, I agree that honda's rotate opposite direction from most
other engines. In a FWD car, you can't "flip the diff" and the reason honda
rotates the other direction is that the engine is facing the other
direction. So to carry this logic further, if a FWD VW (golf for example)
were to be sold with the engine turning the other direction, the engine
would need to face the other direction (timing belt against drivers fender
for USA) or require extra gearing to reverse the driveshaft direction. I
would seriously doubt anyone claiming to have seen such a beast. Or a honda
set up backward.
In anycase, we are well past toilet bowl technology (old big carbs) and I
do not believe that direction of engine rotation has anything to do with
swirling water down a toilet bowl. As far as air flow goes, it makes no
difference to the engine rotation, other than the obvious order of the
intake and exhaust pulses.
