OK - you have got to be kidding.
[This was asked...Now, why do engines all turn in the same direction?
They don't. Only those in the northern hemisphere do. [snip]]
But here is a valid reason. Actually, some boat configurations do
counter-rotation. Engines used the same transmission with forward and
reverse identical, no outdrive. Counter rotating props is more efficient
and is better for steering.
I once obtained a Merc 260 (Chevy 350 with 4 bolt main bearings) once to
replace the engine in my boat. I got one of two motors - this one said
normal rotation on the valve covers. We'll after putting on the Volvo
Penta stuff and installing this motor and trying to start it, backfiring,
much cussing and more confusion, I discovered I actually had the one that
was the counter-rotating motor. Different Crank, rear-main seal,
distributor gear on the cam, etc.
So much for not getting the motor in by memorial day - turned out to be
more like independance day that year. And boats are supposed to be for
pleasure. I think I put more time working on that boat than I did using
it.
Come to think of it, the Pearl Audi Avant (MAC) has been like that
lately;-0..but that will change soon, I hope.
