1990 A80 cold start issues

Hi,

     I recently purchased a 1990 Audi 80 FWD 4-cyl automatic and am
having a devil of a time figuring out the locations and wiring colors
for the thermo-time switch (cold start valve doesn't fire/has no voltage
to it), temp sender for the gauge, and temp sensor (NTC (may not have
one)). I bought the car for really cheap as a non-runner and am trying
to get it running right for resale. I have the bentley manuals for the
4k and 100/200 but not for the 80/90. The water inlet has two fittings
for two sensors -- one on top and one on the bottom. Based on the
wiring, it looks like the temp sender for the gauge goes on top with a
blue/brown and a blue/white wire to it, and the sensor on the bottom
(broken off currently and have a sensor on the way) has a black/red and
brown/yellow wire to the general location. So far, I can't make heads
or tails of it and can't get voltage to the cold start valve.
Any help would be tremendously appreciated!

Cheers!
