Solution to no-so-cold AC

I'm writing this from home, so it's from a different e-mail address, but
I'm the guy who had his AC on a 1987.5 Coupe GT converted to R134a with
little success. The Coupe is now over at the shop getting the converted AC
looked at since it wasn't cooling enough. He has come up with a
diagnosis...lack of airflow to the condenser (the part in front of the
radiator, I think that's the condenser). If you feel it, there are
distinctive hot and cool spots on it. Anyway, when he put a fan in front of
it, the pressures dropped and the vent temp went down to as low as 39
degrees! 39 is more than acceptable to me. He believes that the radiator
fan just isn't pulling enough air through to be affective on a converted
system. His idea is to put an electric fan in front of the condenser as a
helper fan like most other modern cars have. He's planning on wiring in
into the compressor switch so that it only comes on when the compressor
kicks in. So, what do you think of this idea? Also, do you think my stock
radiator fan should be good enough? He thinks it might be weak. Any idea
how to test it to see whether it may need replacement? On my other cars,
the radiator fan creates tornado like winds, this one only produces a nice
strong HOT breeze. I tried the old rolled up newspaper test, it didn't stop
the fan. Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Dave
