'91 200q20v center driveshaft is CF as well..so it was at least 1991.
My guess is they figured it was a good place to save weight, and it's
not exactly a high-maintenance item, so if it was expensive to
replace, who cares...and, hmm, lets see...let's run this through my
MarketingSleazeOMatic.

Output: "Race-bred lightweight carbon fiber drivetrain technology"

Yep, makes for a catchy marketing phrase :-)
