Another good tool is the plastic cable used in weed eaters.  Nice and
cheap, and as it is a flexible plastic, less likely to damage the lines
when you feed it through.

I would second the suggestion for starting at the bottom.  If you are
feeding from the top, and hit a clog, you will push on it, which may
push the hose off of the drain.  Then, you will have to do quite a bit
of disassembly to get to the drain hose, and reattach it.
When pushing from the bottom, it will push the hose towards the drain,
so you won't be as likely to push them off.
