[A4] Oil consumption

Unfortunately, oil consumption is not that unusual for this engine,
although at around 1 quart every 1000 miles you are getting towards the
point where it is getting excessive.  The oil consumption in my former 98.5
2.8 30V A4 was around 1 liter every 3000 km, or around 1 US quart every
1900 miles (one of the factors that influenced me to trade the 98.5 in for
a new car).  There is some anecdotal 'evidence' that points to oil
consumption being caused by too early a switch to synthetic oil not
allowing the full engine break-in process to take place.  If I hadn't
traded the 98.5 I would have switched to a non-synthetic oil, purely
because of the cost factor.
