The blocks are basically the same. The 3A distributor should drop right
in to your block. If you want a "mechanical" distributor (which I assume
you mean vacuum/centrifugal advance) you can use the distributor out of
any of the early VW or Audi 4 cylinder engines from the Fox/4000 or
VW Dasher/Rabbit/Scirocco/Jetta cars.
