Assuming we are talking Type 85 here, the Coupe (GT) has a fixed rear window and a trunk lid. It looks like a hatchback, but it has a very nice and deep trunk. The gas tank is upright between the back seat and the trunk, and there is no quattro driveline to take up floor space.
I'm not 100% sure about the Type 89 Coupe quattros, they may have a hatch.
I remember how cool the '91 90q20v my buddy had was, the way the rear trunk kinda somersaults forward when you open it. I suppose the Coupe quattros may be similar. I guess the Coupe GT's also have a cool trunk lid, altho' it is a simple hinge and not the compound jobbie that the 90's had. You can disconnect the support struts to lay the trunk on the back window tho'.
Once my buddy's Coupe GT got broken into, and his sub box and amps were saved because the jerks didn't know how to pop the trunk open. haha
