About a month ago my 87 5000cstq suddennly had no power. It would run
rough but could hardly get out of it's own way. Thanks to the many
listers that gave ideas for areas to check. Lack of free time and
waiting on a air flow meter boot delayed the feedback. Problem turned
out to be two spark plug wires that had leaks between the ceramic and
the outer metal shell. I tested for spark and seemed to be strong.
However, the spark to block was very tough to see. One night I turned
off outside lights and I could actually hear the spark. The wires were
only a year old but the little clip at the end had moved causing great
difficulty in putting on properly. I had taken the shells apart to fix
this wire and in doing so must have ruined the insulation. New wires
solved the problem!!! In looking for vaccuum leaks I did find the
following- the hose that connects from air flow elbow to what looks like
vapor cannister could be pulled away from cannister and leak. This side
is hidden and would be very hard to find leak.
Thanks---- John Dyer
