You're new to the party. :) I've been using ads stuff since the early '80s,
started with a set of box speakers under the seats of a wagon many years
ago. Still have a set of the little box speakers, but they're not hooked up
to anything right now.

If I were doing car speakers, I'd certainly do as you describe. On my 740
Volvo, I put the woofers in the stock door location and the tweets up high
on the door...worked beautifully, and was completely stock looking.
