Just did this job last summer, I don't recall anything too unusual about
the
separation. AIR there are "tabs" that "hook" the radiator to the
condensor,
to free up the two, you must slide the condensor up off of the radiator
an inch or
two before you can get them apart. They slide in a parallel direction. I
hope that
this is correct, as I may be confusing this with working on a 4KQ, but as
I said
before, this job had no surprises for me.
BTW, I also have had no beef with the plastic composite radiators, they
actually
seem to last longer, more reliably than brass, the only fault, as you
found is that
when they do fail, it's often catastrophic rather than the annoying weep,
drip and
pinhole leaks that seem to be providence of the brass ones.
