Hi all,
This is a true Love/Hate Type 44 story. A couple of weeks ago I had a death
in the family and had to go away for 10 days. Two days before the drivers
door lock broke and I could arm the alarm but could not lock it from that
side. I thought to myself this blows but I still have the passenger door.
The morning that I am scheduled to leave the passenger lock does the same
thing. DOH!! I have to leave in 2 hours damn this *@%#* Audi. I call my
local VW/Audi rip off center and order the repair kits for both doors for
$57. As usual the kits aren't in stock but they will take a week to ship to
the dealer. &*&#&@ Audi!!! I'm screwed, I live in Boston and the car is
parked on the street, without locks in a notorious car break-in area. I
remove the Alpine head unit, Bazooka Sub, my carputer setup, and pull the
rotor from the distributor. I spent the next 10 days worried about what I
would find when I get back. Well I get back go to the car it looks
untouched. It was parked under a tree and was covered with pollen. There was
no finger prints on the door handles nothing was touched. YEEEEE HAAAAA! I
guess Boston thieves don't even look at Type 44's. I go to the VW/Audi rip
off center and they only have the drivers side kit in. Typical!! I take the
door apart and find that the Lock arm is ok but the plastic piece that holds
the rod onto the arm is broken. 1 tie rap and all I can lock the doors
again. I will be doing the passenger side this weekend and I hope to blessed
by the Audi gods again but I may be pushing my luck.
