I have a 89 200TQ with the 5sp manual gearbox. It has the magnetic
speedo sender in the trans. These type pickups have a reed relay in them
and a magnetic in the tranny. Everytime the axle turns a magnet goes
by the sensor and closes or opens the relay in them. The 5000 T/TQs have
the cable
driven sensor in their cars. The manual and auto trans. sending units
look the same
other than the auto one has about 5" cable on the end and the manual one is
flush.
The elect. connector on the end of these is the same as the later 200
cars.. All these
cars had the electronic speedometer and should operate on the same
principle. I'm talking about
the US cars and I don't know if the european one are the same.
Hope this helps
