"distance sensor" for Audi 200 '90

Hi!
Been wondering about this for some time now. I've got the 200 with the
facelifted dashboard and the electronic speedometer. I used to have an
automatic gearbox in it, but now it's gone and I have an 016 UW I will
be fitting. This still has the old speedometer cable thing attached to
it, just the bit in the gearbox that I assume feeds of the speedo worm
gear.
As I've never been up close and personal with my old auto gearbox or a
manual gearbox from a 200 turbo, I was just wondering where the
electronic sensor ("distance sensor" in ETKA) sits and whether it
replaces the connection for the old speedometer cable (as on the old
type-44 100/5000) on all 016 manual gearboxes.
Also, what is the difference between the distance sensor of the
automatic and the manual 200? Same part number, different suffix. 857
957 827 (manual) vs. 857 957 827 B (automatic). Where do these mount?
Looking at illustration 175-00 in ETKA, what are parts 10, 11 and 12?
Why is 8 and 7 listed with the automatic model, doesn't the manual have
that?
Feeling lost as usual. :) I suspect the dodgey mechanic who took my
automatic gearbox took the sensors with it. :(
Thanks.
G.
