Trunk Lid Won't Open - '86 4kQ

Steve,

Remove the rear seat back, disconnect the 3rd brakelight, then pull the
cardboard parcel shelf as far forward as the rear seatbelts and speaker
wires will allow.  Under the rear speakers are two holes into the trunk big
enough to get an arm through, or point a flashlight into.  This is the best
trunk access I can think of from inside the car.  I don't remember exactly
what it looks like, but the latch mechanism is pretty straightforward, as I
once closed myself in the trunk (searching for water leaks) and had no
trouble getting back out.  If your friend can see the latch, he can probably
fashion a coathanger or soemthing to pull on the release rod.

Alternately, try removing one of the lisence plate lights and feeling around
near the latch.  Push and pull on whatever is within reach and eventually it
should open.  I had a friend once who never had a key to her 4k trunk, this
was the only way to open it!
