Mild steel flanges are quite common on exh. systems as mild steel does not
warp as badly as stainless, and there is no worry of a flange rusting through
like a pipe would. Not sure why they'd put in a section of 2.5", any real
quieting should be done with muffler tuning. Not sure if it makes too much
difference assuming the car is under 300hp, quite easy to fix none the less.
