George,
If the strut inserts for the C4's follows the same pattern as the type 44s,=
you need Bilstein HD if you intend to install them in an non-lowered car. =
The Sport vs. the HD are essentially the same valving, however the sport ha=
s a shorter shaft to prevent bottoming on shorter
springed vehicles. I does, however, run the risk of hyperextension on
rebound, hence the need to use the HD's on stock spring cars. Check with
RD Enterprizes (list vendor) as an application and potential purchase
source, or go to Bilstein.com, for the same info. I was pleasantly surprize=
d when I called Bilstein last summer, to check for availibilty of the rear =
type 44 large nut Sports, they were actually very helpful and willing to di=
scuss things, not what I had expected.

I expect to replace the front sturt inserts on my recently purchased 97 A6
with 143K. I presently have it the shop getting new inner and outer bushing
on the front lower control arm. The OEM sturt is a Boge gas unit, that
gives a reasonable balance on ride and handling. The Bilstein "sport" sells
for about 45.00 more for each. Has anyone installed the sport on their A6,
and how do you like them?
Bilstein reportedly makes another model, but I am not sure which is stiffer.
I would prefer the less stiff ones. I do not plan on change springs or
lower the car.
