(I want) more torque from a NG motor

I obviously struck a dis-chord with my reference to a hollow cat. Me
aculpa.
Unfortunately the subsequent storm has washed away the original point. A
freer flowing exhaust can improve torque. The manifold on the NG is
already pretty good. A subsequent system that scavenges well (the
momentum of the flow sort of pulls itself along) can really fatten up the
torque feel.
In my GTI, I had a 4-2-1 manifold/downpipe that was very smooth. Easy to
do with that transverse engine. Not impossible on an NG. Get a hi-flow
cat and some 2.5-inch pipe from there back. I have a glass pack and a
turbo muffler out back. Not very elegant but very functional.
