My thought was to find the appropriate plastic in a size and shape that
could be filed or turned on a lathe to the outside diameter of the thread
and cut it with a die. Not pay a machine shop to turn it out. As you say,
Huw, if you're going to involve a machine shop, a chemist, an injection
molding, etc., you might as well pay the $35 for a 10-cent plug.
