The red lighting comes from the red filtering effects in the optics.
The bulbs glow in regular incandescent white (on the latest Audis,
white LEDs are used instead).  You can try coloring the optics with a
red marker, or use special "bulb condom" red filters available from
VDO dealers, but these will reduce the effective light.  Audi uses
higher intensity bulbs to bring the light level up to normal.
