The things you see

Makes you scratch you head doesn't it, the things that you see.
This morning I'd just finished fitting a new indicator switch to my 88 Ur
when I heard a car drive into the road that I live on. Didn't take too much
notice at first until I realised that it didn't sound right, the revs were
up and down yet it didn't seem to be moving much. Looked up to see a MB
saloon pass my house in reverse and continue down the road and around the
next bend. Curious, I took a jog along to the bend where I was able to watch
it travel the next mile or so, speed bumps and all, still in reverse. God
only know what the driver did at the intersection at end of the road or how
he picked his way past all the parked cars.
Stuck in reverse gear I reckon, but still worth some penalty points for
'excessive reversing' or something like that.
In my local rag this week was a salesman blaming his latest speeding
conviction on the routefinding computer in his car. He'd programmed it for a
trip to York and hadn't become concerned until he reached somewhere north of
Manchester and it told him that he was only 10 miles from his destination.
He was. The village of York in Lancashire (population something like 50 when
it's busy) rather than the city of York in Yorkshire, some 80 miles away, so
he points his car in the correct direction and boots it.
10 miles from York (the city) he gets pulled by the cops at 95mph+.
One of the best excuses I've heard for a while.
