I was reading up about the upcoming 2003 Dodge SRT-4 hi-po Neon variant in
Sport Compact car. For under $20k its a helluva car, never mind the chassis,
the thing has a good amount of power and go. Rated at 215hp and 245lb-ft of
torque from the 16-valve 2.4, the pre-production test car they had laid down
223hp and 250 lb-ft of torque...at the front wheels (talk about underrated).
This was good for a 5.8 sec 0-60, front tires blazing the whole way. All
pretty impressive, for the cost of a 1.8t Jetta.
Anyway..what caught my attention was that its 2.4l 4-valve motor, running
14psi boost, made slightly less power than my 2.2 2-valve running about 15psi
boost (229.2 and 252.6), at all 4 wheels. Both cars have catalytic
converters, the Dodge technically does not have any mufflers, just two
resonators, I have one. The only real modification on my current 10v motor
was 40mm intake valves, the head hasn't even been ported, stock MC1 cam.
So, on one hand I'm pretty happy at the efficiency of my current 034EFI'd
motor, about 130 hp/liter assuming 25% drivetrain loss, all at a relatively
low boost level.
I'm finishing up work on a built 2.3 10v turbo, I ported the head, 40/35
valves, and 270 cam, etc, I'll be dynoing the chassis at the same 15psi
setting to see how much power the new, better flowing motor makes, and of
course, at much higher boost settings too ;)
