That plastic collar at the top of the dipstick tube is replaceable. I had
similar fault with a 88 Jetta. VW dealer had it in stock; quite cheap.
Fairly common occurrence according to the dealer. Don't have the part # for
you
Here in the Midwest for the last 2 days has been above average temp. Going
to cool down in the next few days quite a bit.
Good luck

Subject: leaving for road trip & vw golf dipstick question
First, I'm leaving for my road trip to Des Moines, Ia sometime
tonight from Long Island. I drive a 200q. That's my Audi content.
Next, my dad has a 92 Golf with the 1.8 8v. There's an orange nylon
seal on the end of the dipstick tube, in which, the dipstick engages.
Anyhow, it's broken all the way around. I taped it with electrical
tape, but am looking to replace it. Is it replaceable? It had a part
number on it, but most had broken off. Additionally, it flakes, so I
wouldn't be surprised if there are small bits floating in a screen
somewhere.
TIA!
