Hose inpection on Multi Function switch for automatic transmission

Dear Mike
I saw the new part and talked to the mechanic. It is not the mesh hose that
was the problem. Rather, there is a very small and short "vent" hose which
truthfully, I do not know that one can do anything to protect against
deterioration. I am also curious what its purpose is. Why do we need a
vent hose on the park neutral safety switch-- aka -- by Audi as the
multifunction switch for automatics.
