Hose inpection on Multi Function switch for automatic transmission

For the simple reason that without a vent, the switch will fill up with
crud. The reason this happens is that during normal variations in
barometric pressure, the switch "breathes" and unless you provide a
vent, it will breath through the seal, which can lead to drawing in
water, oil, or whatever else happens to be there.

Some manufacturers do try to hermetically seal the switch, however,
this is very difficult to do without spending a ferocious amount of
money, and even then it may not be so easy.
