Hello all...
Still in pursuit of the elusive oil pressure problem on the 4ktq (MC motor)=
. Readings proved to be the same with the mechanical gauge as well as with=
the other gauges, so I pulled the oil pump on the engine and will replace =
with a known good one.
I've received several emails asking whether I have installed the oil pressu=
re relief valve plunger correctly. Presently, after what I've seen on seve=
ral engines, the whole valve consists of:
1=2E A threaded plug or a temp sender (as in the 4kq) and a washer
2=2E A spring
3=2E A plunger (piston) with a machined (stepped end) and an open end
It's been my understanding that the machined end of the plunger (with the s=
tep or "nipple") goes into the spring itself. In other words, the step fit=
s into the internal diameter of the spring. This means that the open end w=
ith the beveled edge fits up into the pump body.
Can anyone confirm this orientation? Et_ka and the Bentley seem to show th=
e assembly put together like this....
Also, has anyone ever seen wear on the plunger? All the plungers appear to =
have the same part number in Et_ka, but has anyone seen a plunger with wear=
on the outside of it causing it to move more freely in its bore? It's a =
long shot, but I wanted to see if anyone has seen this...That'd certainly c=
ause a pressure "bleed", wouldn't it?
Mine looks fine, but at this point, "I'm getting down to the nitty grit" (a=
s the Beasties would say).
Thanks in advance.
