Or, you could have used a "needle" attachment for the grease gun.

Better yet, you can pick up a cheap hand held grease gun with the needle
fitting attached.  You push the ball bearing of the grease fitting in
with the end, and you can grease at some pretty steep angles.    The
"mini" grease gun I got from the SnapOn guy, $15 (made in China), these
are sold as "air tool lube applicators" or something like that by SnapOn.
I like the minigun because you only have to apply pressure to one spot,
the plunger is in line with the needle, so you're holding it in place and
applying grease at the same time.
