Heat (Re: Had to add to rear caliper woes posts)

My $.02 question.  I had this problem in spades, so I got two calipers which
went on fairly easily.  Now the rub was that the backing plates, which I
need to remove to get the (old) rotors off (and claim the $100 core charge
on the calipers) are welded on.  They seem to be 10mm allen heads.

Can anyone confirm this?  I can't even see up there.

My big question is, like the drain plug issue, how much heat do these
puppies need?  I have the torch, but just don't know how long to hold its
feet to the fire.
