Radio Antenna

I have lost radio reception. I switched the radio, antenna wire, and mast
with no improvement. If I insert just the tip of the antenna lead into the
rear of the radio without touching the sides I get limited reception. What
is happening?
It was fine until I installed a new head unit and had no reception. I then
backtracked and put the original system all back in and still had the same
problem. Then I swapped the antenna lead with no improvement and then the
motor/mast with no improvement. If I tape the outer portion of the lead
going into the radio and insert it I receive a little. Anyone with BTDT?
