Hi everyone!
I'm sure you guys get tired of answering the same old questions over and over, but I would appreciate any help!
A little history: I was given a 85 4000S (non Quattro, but it was free!) last week. It only has 80,000 miles, but it's been sitting for almost 2 years. So the project is to get it road legal again.
So far we've put in a new timing belt, (old one had snapped) new distributor, (didn't need...) oil change, filter, and a fuel pump.
The issues the car has: Previous owner ran the passenger side into a curb and bent the lower control arm. Broken turn signal lever. The cable broke on the drivers window, rendering the power window useless. (The previous owner got mad and threw the old power window unit away! Duh) According to my friend, it has varnish in the gas tank from sitting so long. He claims that it gummed up the new fuel pump and now we have to get all that gunk out of the tank to make the car run. He wants to put diesel fuel in the tank for a week or so to clean out all the gunk. And it needs a new fuel pump relay.
Solutions so far. Get a junkyard lower control arm, and new bushings. Junkyard turn signal lever.
Questions I have: After looking around the local junkyard today I couldn't find a single 4000 with a drivers door window motor. (I wonder why...) I did find 2 VW Quantum's with the motor and window assembly complete. Also I found several Golf's with manual window cranks that looked like they would be easy to make work on the Audi.
Will VW Quantum power window motors work? Will they bolt up? What if I took the motor from the drivers rear door on the Audi?
Will putting diesel fuel in the tank work to clean out the gunk?
Any reccomendations?
Thank's in advance for any advice! I really appreciate it.

PS, My friend also has a 90 Audi V-8 and he wants to know if anyone has ever done a swap to a manual transmission on that car...? Thanks again!
