Bob,

Two things come to mind after your description:

1.  Something with the alternator circuit.  I recently had the same thing
happen to me, though prior to that the alternator wiouldn't charge unless I
first blipped the throttle a little after starting for the previous six
months.  Bad (open) diode?

2.  The requisite bad doorjamb switch

I would opt for the former, as the kind of current draw you describe fits
that scenario better.
