I do not have the request in my collection of e-mails anymore, but a day or=
two ago, somebody asked for the part number for the synthetic lubricant us=
ed by Audi in the manual transmission, starting sometime in the early '90s.=
I looked it up just now on the new Bentley manual on CD-ROM for the 93-95 =
90s. More on that in a moment.
The part number for the lubricant called for in this manual is G 005 000. I=
t lists it as "75W90 synthetic gear lubricant". It lists the same part numb=
er for the lubricant to be used in the rear final drive as well.
The second generation Bentley on CD-ROM: So far, all I can say is that it i=
s much slower on my otherwise just fine 266MHz/W98SE, than the first genera=
tion CD was. It has quite a few of the diagrams, especially wiring, in PDF =
format and they make my old hog bog down. I actually had no problem with th=
e data or usability of rev 1, until it stopped functioning for some reason.=
I then opted for the $49.00 "upgrade" being offered by Bentley publishers.=
I do not like either of these as much as a paper manual. I have not heard =
of anybody yet who has said that they do.
Other than looking up the part number for this oil, I have not USED the CD =
yet, just poked around. Carrying out a heavy-duty repair using it as a refe=
rence is when I will really be able to tell if I can live with it.
