What the hell did I blow up this time?

WOT, third gear, 17 psi, ~5000 rpms, merging like a
mad man, POW, huge backfire, big puff of black smoke.
The car still runs great below 10 psi, compression is
120-140 psi on all cylinders, no black or grey smoke,
no abnormal blowby. It seems to be leaning out above
10 psi. Can a fuel pump die that suddenly? I'll have
to re-route my gauge to check for sure, but it seems
to be working just fine.
I've also verified the pressure reference line to both
ECU's is good. Also keep in mind that's the only
critical vacuum line, everything else can leak like
crazy and it won't matter. Any thoughts?
