Bang! A4 battery explodes

It happened to a friend of mine, but that car was a 1983 Citroën 2CV. He
took it to a Cit-shop, and they replaced the charging relay, in addition
to the battery. For him, it happened as he pulled into his driveway, not
as he was about to start.
