Stainless bolts on your sunroof would cause this, although a decent layer of
paint should stop this, we make remote controlled submersibles and in any
instance of different metals (ie in your case stainless, steel and zinc
galvanizing) we try and insulate between the different parts, usually the
best approach is to use nylon washers, or don't use stainless!!! Steel is
much more forgiving but of course it will rust itself.

Subject: Rust on the sunroof, and sunroof only. Metal experts??/

[ Converted text/html to text/plain ]

I have my CGT's sunroof firmly bolted with 10 SS 1/4" bolts, and two weeks
ago
I cut it to put a vent (this is a rally car).

While cutting, I noticed that the sun roof has several small dots of rust,
but
the rest of the roof doesn't, neither anywhere else in the car.

Is this some kind of metal reaction to the SS bolts? What to do on this
case?

Is this something similar to what happens with boats (sacrifice anode)?

TIA,

Carlos.
