I almost hate to have a counter preference to yours :-)
I like the jump post for two reasons:
1) It does not move. The alternator is subject to the same movement as the
engine, so you would need to factor this into your wiring plans, and allow
for the potential movement.
2) The alternator is low and dirty, where the jump post is more protected.
The factory connectors on the alternator are sealed swaged -- no exposed
wire and very robust in the wet and crud near the alternator. The jump post
is much safer for your typical DIY crimp connector with some exposed wire
and the potential for leakage into the insulation.
