I have not messed with the Audi's climate control system, but all the
systems I have messed with purposefully turn on the heater when the A/C is
on. They heat the air slightly before it gets into the car to keep the car
from fogging up.

Warm air can hold more moisture than cold air. As you cool air, it often
gets over-saturated with water. This is why the condenser is often wet, and
why it has a drain to the outside, and why cars running their A/C are often
seen to drip water. If you were to put this water saturated cool air into
the car, things would get wet. Thus they heat the air slightly after the
condenser to move the air away from being saturated with water.

Have you noticed that cars with A/C run the A/C on defrost? They take in
air, cool it down, then heat it up, then blow it out on the moist window.
The A/C acts as a de-humidifier, which is what you need when trying to
removed condensation from the windows. Less warm but dryer air.
