euro T44 climate control, conversion?

I vaguely recall a post or two from the past about putting the earlier US
5000 type 43 model manual climate control in a type 44.  Seems the cars
had many crossover components and systems (well, for the non-US market).
Since you're in the US, finding a previous generation 5K to remove the
parts from may simplify things.  Canada also seemed to get the base model
vehicles not sold in the US.
There has also been a lister or two who converted their type 44's over to
vacuum assist and "normal" power steering by transplanting plug and play
parts from the type 43.
