FW: [s-cars] Glowing Turbo and EM

Jim -

By the "... 1" from the flange..." should I read that
to be before, or after the turbo?

Based on Tommy A's tuning goal to try to achieve @ 950 C
as measured in the exhaust manifold, BEFORE the turbo
that would put you in his range of a "good" number.

If, OTOH, that's a reading taken after the turbine,
depending on how much energy the turbine is recovering
out of the exhaust gas flow (? I've heard a "well
tuned / matched turbo can, or should take the exhaust
gas temperature down by as much as 300F), that could mean
EM and valve temperatures of 2000+ F.

I'm wondering what the acceptable &/or safe parameters for
those figures are generally considered to be.

Thanks for the data. The SPA Boost/EGT gauge is "temporarily"
back out of my car, so I don't have good current figures.
Before the last turbo change over I was seeing @ 1500 ~1575 F
measured in the exhaust manifold, @ 2" or so away from the
# 2 cylinder port. But, I also think I'm still running a bit
rich, and there's probably something that could or should be
done with the timing etc.,... if we had a way to tweak and
adjust those items in the car.

1500 ~1575 is a ways off what's otherwise been suggested,
@ 1700+ F / 950 C, as an optimal level.

~I just got back from the mountains and often saw ~1750
~at the turbo inlet when cruising up the long passes at
~~10 psi. I have the probe tapped into the hot side
~about 1" from the flange. I know my fuel is good,
~timing may be a little retarded. I'm sure I'm getting
~pretty high #s with the probe right there, one of
~these days I'll put it in a single runner and compare.
