Wheel bearing diagnosis

Fellow listers -
Let me start with a disclaimer: the following isn't about an Audi but
rather my brother's dorF eborP (boy that looks weird backwards!). But I
think the issues are the same.
The car sounds to me like it has a bad right-front wheel bearing. The
noise is wheel-speed dependent, it oscillates in volume per revolution,
and gets louder with increased load (i.e. turning left).
I would think the noise was definitely the wheel bearing, except that
the car also has failing outer CV joints, and one mechanic said it might
be that. I thought CV's only made those clicking noises...
We plan to go ahead and replace the drive axles, hoping that's all it
needs, but if the wheel bearing is definitely bad, I'd like to replace
that in the same session.
MAC: R&R of the axles on this car requires separation of the hub from
most of the suspension! I didn't know how good I had it on the 5k.
Thanks,
- Wallace
