5kT starter R&R

So I've started taking apart my starter, figuring it could use at least a
cleaning. The brushes look worn, but other than that it's just got tons of
dirt in there. I got most parts off fine, except for the solenoid. There
are 3 phillips screws in the base that are real tight, and I don't want
them to strip. Any ideas or BTDT's? Are parts available for the starter, or
am I really just craxy for trying to rebuild this thing??? TIA.
