I apologize for the confusion which I created by not being more complete.
**WE* need to sell one of our cars.
I put the new tranny in last summer it has been parked as our backup
car pretty much since then. I have put a bunch of other parts in
ourselves as well: power steering pump, fuel pump, there's a costly
part with gravity in the title, brake master cylinder, alternator,
lower control arm, CV joints and wheel front wheel bearings, to
mention a few. The tires do not need to be replaced right away.
Air flow direction works, computer indicating indoor and outdoor temp
works fine, and the heater and blower motor work fine.
The below listing are the "estimates of used car prices" at those
sites which I ran as a SELLER to try to get an *estimate* of what to
charge. They varied so much I decided to ask the list. I should
have posted in better detail.
So if we sell the car, being we are not trying to shaft someone with
a car that needs a lot of repairs as far as we can tell, what would
be a fair price to the buyer without shorting ourselves ? If we were
not in a crisis, I would never consider selling it because it is
reliable and I just put a bunch of stuff into it.

We need to sell one of our cars
87 Audi 5000 S
2.3 liter
Automatic
Mileage: approximately 175,000
Cloth interior but in very nice condition -
new transmission--probably about 2-3 months of driving
mechanically good except
AC seems to be seized
body dented several places, tiny bit of rust
rides nice
From cars.com:
Vehicle Value (Unadjusted) $20,500 $2,325
Additional Equipment:
Cruise Control $40
Locks, Power Door $40
Transmission, Automatic $160
Wheels, Premium $70
Sunroof, Power $70
Total Equipment Adjustment $380
Mileage Adjustment N/A
Total Vehicle Value (Adjusted) $2,705
From kbb.com:
Consumer Rated Condition: Fair
"Fair" condition means that the vehicle probably has some mechanical
or cosmetic defects, but is still in safe running condition. The
paint, body and/or interior need work to be performed by a
professional in order to be sold.
The tires need to be replaced. There may be some repairable rust
damage. The value of cars in this category may vary widely. A clean
title history is assumed.
Private Party Value $905
From edmunds.com:
Trade-in Private
Party Dealer Retail
Base Price $1,366
$1,751 $2,393
Optional Equipment $31 $41
$63
Color Adjustment $0
$0 $0
Regional Adjustment $-52 $-67
$-92
Mileage Adjustment $-683 $-683
$-683
Condition Adjustment $-295 $-372
$-496
Total $367 $670
$1,185
So do I add the numbers up and divide by 3 ? That would be $1426.
Does any body want to wager what a car of this vintage would go for?
The interior is pretty good, but the body needs work along with the
AC. Tranny is new, and so are some other parts, but the odometer
doesn't work.
Does the old rule of thumb, that a car that runs pretty well but
isn't much to look at goes for about $1,000.
Or would it be more? Or less because of the problems?
Cheers, Fay
