WTB: trailer hitch assembly; C4 (100, A6) sedan

Installed one on my 1986 5ktqcs. I am not sure where and how it would
differ, but here goes.
I would say this is a 7, on a 1-10 scale.
Installation of Da'Lan:
1) Pick up overpriced hitch at local trailer shop. U-haul sells one for
C4's
2) Remove from packaging.
3) Use two floor jacks to hold hitch under car, against the frame.
4) Look for anything that keeps it from making full contact with frame
rails.
First car (85 5ks) I installed it on, there was nothing in the way. Second
car (86 5ktqcs), I had to remove the Tow Hook.
5) Steal neighbors large 1/2 inch drill and SHARP drill bits. Drill
appropriate holes. Return drill before they notice it gone.
6) Apply cold galvanizing paint to unprotected metal!
7) Lower hitch and the install the U bolt into the frame rail -tricky step.
8) Offer hitch back up to car and install the U bolt nuts and also the bolts
in the truck area. I used lots of Anti-Seize -thankfully!
9) Step back and gaze at your accomplishment.

Now you need to install a "box" for your trailer lights.
This would be a 5.

10) This was a pain because AUDI does not provide enough slack in their
wires.
11) Splice "box" signal wires into the Audi wiring.
12) Run power wire to, I believe, 10amp circuit. Make sure it is only
switched by the Ign. circuit -don't wanna be accidentally turning off
trailer lights.

PEACE

|If *ANYONE* has a hitch assembly on their C4 sedan, but finds they no
|longer have a need for this assembly, please consider selling the item
|to me.
|
|If *ANYONE* has any advice on this subject, please chime in now. Pros
|and cons are welcome, BTDT stories are also welcome.
|
|PS - I'm just getting way too much pleasure from this image in my head:
|my Audi and my Daytona 955i heading down the highway.

|Sean -
|
|I am also looking to purchase a trailer hitch for my '93
|100CSQ Avant to
|pull a small 14 ft. boat trailer. DaLan manufactures one for
|the wagon and
|I would assume for the sedan as well. Check out
|www.hitch-web.com The rear
|bumper has to be removed when installing on the Avant. Has
|anyone BTDT. I
|am wondering how big of a job this may be. We may get into a
|bidding war if
|a used one becomes available.
|
|Best Regards
|David Torrey
