If its the SIgns with programmable words like "Lane Closure" or "work
ahead", etc....... which are towed to a spot, they have a circle near the
lower box where the motor/generator is (not the word display of the sign)
and they: "the circle area" house a K band radar unit antenna. They are
solely to slow down radar detector types in traffic zones.
(though I suppose they could log speeds for avergaes and vague stats)

One major PITA is that a number of New England
states use roadsigns that set off the Valentine. I *think* this is an
emergency signal rather than simple radar, and probably can be turned off,
but haven't looked into it yet...
