Are you kidding!  Your friend is now living in the land of Diesel Powered
vehicles where anyone can buy a 3-cylinder TDI or a V8 Turbocharged Diesel
sedan, and he's asking for advise?

Seriously, he should drive whatever size motor and fuel mileage suits him,
and then find a way to ship a few VW Lupo's in a trunk to America.
