Vacuum Unit noisy

Good morning everyone.

I have a 1988 Audi 90Q with auxiliary vacuum unit
noisy (this the unit that is operated by the camshaft
and is mounted on the side of the cylinder head). It
sounds like a tappet noise, but I know for a fact that
it is the push rod that operates the diaphragm that is
making the noise.

Has anybody on the list ever tried to fix this
problem??

If so, how??  I understand they are very expensive to
replace.  Thanks a bunch in advance.
